Humor & Health
Deepak Chopra in one of his books relates an experiment with a World War II veteran. He was hooked up to many monitoring tools and shown pictures of scenes from the war. When he was shown a burning fighter aircraft his heart rate, temperature and all other measured physiological readings went off the charts. Cellular scrapings from his mouth, also monitored, responded at the same time and degree. They were seven miles from his body.
Western medicine is just now studying the effects of emotions on our health. People have defeated cancer with humor. Many have survived terrible personal tragedy with laughter. You control not the stress in your life but your reaction to it. The difference in how you react to stress can add or subtract years of good health. Take a break from your day to day self and laugh.
Oprah Winfrey: "Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together."
Golda Meir: "Let me tell you the one thing I have against Moses. He took us forty years into the desert in order to bring us to the one place in the Middle East that has no oil!"
Henny Youngman: "I once wanted to become an atheist but I gave up . . . they have no holidays."
George Burns: "Do you know what it means to come home at night to a woman who'll give you a little love, a little affection, a little tenderness? It means you're in the wrong house."
Oscar Wilde: "Always forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them so much."
Benjamin Franklin: "Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."
W. C. Fields: "A woman drove me to drink, and I never even had the courtesy to thank her."
Charlie Brown: "In the book of life, the answers aren't in the back."
