A place devoted to natural healing of disease or symptom relief from botanical medicines. Small manufaturer of All Natural Herbal Salves designed for specific conditions.
Located at the base of the neck, this small gland controls much that goes on in our bodies’ metabolism. It helps to regulate our heart rate as well as the workings of all other organs. The pituitary gland monitors the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood and sends chemical messengers to the thyroid gland to either increase or decrease hormone production.
You can do a basal body temperature check (first thing in the morning, before you move around, under the armpit) to monitor you thyroid level. Your temp should be in the range of 97.2 to 97.5 degrees for most people, lower means an under active gland and higher is an indication of Graves disease or overactive thyroid.
Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a tuber used in Peru to promote fertility in animals at high altitudes. This is used much like the potato tuber as a food staple. Maca has another interesting quality by stimulating the pituitary gland which could be the reason for low thyroid production.
Guggul (Commiphora mukul) is a resin taken from the Mukul tree in India. It is used for high cholesterol with some success. The other action is to stimulate the thyroid for more production. You can actually watch your basal body temperature increase weekly to check your progress.
Bladderwrack (Ascophyllum nodosum) also called Kelp has a high iodine content that is used in the body only for thyroid hormone production. A lack of dietary iodine can lead to goiters or an enlarged thyroid gland.
Hypothyroidism is not a minor condition so please consult you health care professional if you find you have a low basal body temperature, but realize there are alternatives to taking synthetic thyroid hormone replacement for the rest of your life.
For hyperthyroidism or overproduction of the thyroid hormone use Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) which tends to repress hormone production and is also effective for treating cold sores topically.
I have a small company that makes specialty salves for specific disorders , thatgreenstuff.com. The salves currently available are very effective for Diabetics (slow healers), Psoriasis, Shingles, Arthritis (joint or muscle pain) and Pets. The web will be available in Spanish as soon as I complete the translation. Thanks for your interest..
